Thomas was born in Toodyay on 7 April 1845 and married Rosa Jane Chitty on 18 August 1868. They had fourteen children over 26 years. He died suddenly at his home, Hampton-street, Northam on 12 June 1920.
Thomas was a farmer at "Wongamine", then at Toodyay "Roesland". He was a pastoralist, and applied for a 4,000 acre lease in 1864. He was also a stockman on G. Throssell's farm "Silverton" at Northam.
