On one end of the aluminum arm is a wood handle and on the other is a metallic pyramid shaped cup which was the mold for the lead for the sinker.

Lead is an ideal material for making sinkers, with its high density, stability, low cost (at least in comparison to alternate products) and relatively low melting point.
