For nearly five decades Volich Waste has been the Shire of Mundaring's waste contractor. At the June 2023, Bill Volich the man behind the business retired with the rubbish bin contracting being transferred to the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council (EMRC).

Bill started working for the Shire in 1974 before taking over the business from his father Tom in 1978. Tom use to own the Mundaring Hardware prior to starting the business.

Back in the 1970s, there was no automated, robotic arms on the trucks. Bill remembers that the "original trucks had a hole in the side and that the person who would be on the back would place the rubbish into the hole".
It wasn't until the early 1990s when the automated robotic arm trucks where introduced in Mundaring. This is also saw the introduction of the plastic green bin.

For 20 years up until 14 years ago, Bill managed the two Shire rubbish tips/waste transfer stations at Coppin Road and Mathieson Road.
