Overview

Two storey tiled roof building, rendered with stucco finish. Two entrance doors at ground level and access to upper level by exterior stairs at western end of building. Balcony decorated with laurel wreath between wings and name [HARRY LAWRIE COURT].

Historical information

Shown in 1925 postal directories as the home of John Henry Motteram. 1935 directories show 'Esmere' Flats with Harry Motteram and tenants. Later named 'Harry Lawrie Court' with wings and laurel wreath and the name cast on the balcony above the entrance.
The name Harry Lawrie is believed to be in memory of the John Henry (Harry) Motteram's sons Harry and Charles Lawrence (Lawrie) who were both killed during World War II. Flats demolished and new building constructed.
