William Joseph Mann (1875-1951) who established the South Western News in 1903. WJ Mann was the editor and proprietor of the newspaper, which was published weekly, until he sold his interest to his nephew William Howard Hastwell in 1935. The South Western News continued to be published by various people until it finally ceased publication in 1963.
William Mann was the MLC for the South-West Province from 1926 until his death in 1951.

Esther Mann sister of William Joseph Mann.
Jean Frusher married William Howard Hastwell.

The Hastwell family, who allied to the Mann family when WJ Mann’s sister Esther married Walter Hastwell, owned and operated the Mann W J & Co retail stationery store in Prince Street until the early 2000s.
