Albert Slack Knapton (1865-1935) was born in Busselton, the son of George Holland Knapton and Eliza Herring. He was a carpenter by trade and enlisted in 11th Infantry Battalion on 27 February 1917. He was a keen bowler and well respected man in the community.
Edward (Ned) McDaniel (1873- )was born in Busselton, the son of William Alexander McDaniel and Ann Sheahy. Until 1902 he assisted his father with mail contracts to Margaret River and Karridale, after which he became an agent for Millers Karri and Jarrah Company, opened a Tobacconist Shop in Busselton and operated as a barber. In 1908 he became a member of the Busselton Municipal Council. He was a keen bowler and a member of the South West Agricultural society.
John S Bignell (1868-1933) was born in Hay, NSW and travelled to WA with his brother Percy in 1893. For a while they prospected near Kalgoorlie before moving to Perth. John married Miss Ida Cass and after a couple of years they moved to Busselton. Between 1904 and 1908 he was the licensee of the Esplanade Hotel and then later operated the local picture theatre. He was a respected member of the community and both he and his brother Percy were keen bowlers. In 1922 John Bignell sold up his Busselton interests and moved to York where he died 11 years later.
In 1903, local residents lobbied the Busselton Council to construct Lawn Bowling Greens to add to the attractions of Busselton. After some discussion and the sum of 30 pounds it was agreed to build three greens on the local recreation ground. A committee was formed and the Busselton Bowling Club Inc officially came into existence on 11th October 1904.
In 2024 the Busselton Bowling Club boasts of 200 members and four well-maintained greens which are often referred to as the BEST greens in the South-West Region, if not the state.
