Girls With Fancy Goods

Overview

A group of nine girls in front of a wooden wall where small items such as drawstring bags, fans etc are displayed hanging from a line. Palm fronds provide decoration at either side. All girls appear to be wearing white dresses, some with coloured sashes, and the smallest one, who is standing centre front on a folding chair, is wearing a bonnet and clutching flowers.

The print is glued onto unbleached cardboard with a a strip of pink paper on the left edge.

Historical information

Edith Josephine (Jo) (b.1902), Marie Ray (Peggy) (b.1903), Maida Winsome (b.1906) were children of Florence Edith and Raymond John Sharkey. They lived at 3 Victoria Avenue, Claremont.

The Castilla family are mentioned in letters in the museum's document collection as friends of the Sharkey family.

Australian social history from the collection of photographs and albums donated to the museum by Raymond Sharkey's family.

Raymond John Sharkey an architect, surveyor and amateur photographer was born in 1868 in New South Wales. Raymond was a Claremont resident when he died at an early age.
