Display in Pre 1914 Gallery with documentation relating to land purchase and grant to Private Thomas Butler, Pensioner Guard, late of 3rd Foot.
Thomas Butler was born at Lowcurran, Queens County, Ireland . He enlisted in 48 Foot in 1847, aged 18 and later transferred to 3rd Foot. He received multiple injuries and wounds in Crimea and was disabled by a cannon shot wound to the left hand. He arrived in Western Australia as a pensioner Guard in 1866. He applied or purchased lots in Fremantle and Willagee. After the Pensioner Guard Force was disbanded in 1880 he joined the Enrolled Guard. He died in Fremantle on 3 October 1886.
