A 1/64 scale model of the Australian Memorial within the Tobruk Military Cemetery

Historical information

An Australian memorial was constructed in Tobruk commemorating the servicemen who fought and died during the siege of Tobruk in WW2, between 11 April and 10 December 1941.The meorial tablet was unveiled at sunset on 16 October 1941 by Major General Leslie Morshead. This original memorial has since been replaced by the present memorial which is of a similar design. The memorial is within the Tobruk War Cemetery. The total number of Australian burials there is 559 (540 army, 19 air force). Completely walled, the cemetery incorporates the Allied burial ground used during the siege and the Australian memorial. The Tobruk War Cemetery is maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission
