Historical information

This dinner set was a gift to Laura Jane Dumsday, born in Brighton in 1841, on her first marriage to a Mr Corner in c1859 in England. They had one child, Laura, born c1860. Jane was soon a widow and in 1869 married George Dumsday in Brighton. In 1885 the Dumsday family moved to Victoria and Jane brought this tea set with her. In 1892 the family moved again, this time to Western Australia, eventually settling down in Forrestdale where the family played a key role in establishing the Forrestdale community. The tea set was passed down through the family to her youngest granddaughter Lillian Ursula Skeet who donated it to the museum.
Laura Jane Dumsday passed away age 95 in Nedlands in 1936. She had eight children, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren when she passed.
