Overview

Colin Nichol was interviewed by John Bannister over two interviews. Colin was the former manager of the Subiaco Pavilion Markets from 1982, Colin Nichol discusses the set up of the Pavilion and the numerous changes that he witnessed during the time of his involvement. Given the task of setting up the market from scratch, Colin describes the aims of the Pavilion and the hopes for its future. He talks of the area of Subiaco North of Hay Street and how the area would prosper and change with the establishment of the Pavilion. He discusses the varied stalls and thriving businesses that would get their start in the pavilion. The Pavilion was initially a warehouse and Colin talks at length of the varied implementations to the Pavilion that he applied to make it the success that it was to become. He looks at the changes to management that the Pavilion would experience and how he sees the initial demise of a brilliant idea. He discusses the closure of the Subiaco Pavilion Markets and makes mention of its sale in relation to the changing property market and the rising prices of land in the Subiaco area.
