Contextual Information

It is a light brown card in which pre written sentences on the back of the postcard were for soldiers to complete by crossing out those lines which were not applicable. This was done so that no information as to the whereabouts of the soldier can be identified. It also means that the soldier was not able to write anything of a personal nature.

Sydney William Hawkes returned from the First World War and married Ellen Ann Biltoft on the 26th Feb 1919 at the residence of the brides parents.
