AMAZON RIVER DOLPHIN (Inia geoffrensis) Varying in color from dark gray to almost white, this dolphin has a low ridge on the back in place of a dorsal fin, and a long, narrow snout. It reaches a length of about 8 feet. Its hearing is particularly well-developed, enabling it to navigate and hunt in the murky waters in which it lives. Although long considered a single species, another form (provisionally know as Inia boliveiensis) is found in the river systems of the eastern Andes. (1)
