Overview

Colour photo of Post Office & front façade of Town Hall.
Both are red brick [Flemish bond] Post office is 2-storreyed building with sashed windows to side front of building.
The entrance has 2 arches with 4 steps each.
Beneath leading to a small alcoved entrance.
To left of photo is a glass /metal phone box & 3 cars parked in street & one to right of Town Hall (Toodyay Memorial Hall).
White painted wooden fence is situated between the two buildings.
Roof is painted white and there are two chimneys.

Historical information

The Toodyay Post Office and residence is located in Toodyay, Western Australia on the corner of Stirling Terrace and Duke Street North.
It was designed by colonial architect George Temple-Poole and was part of a scheme by the Public Works Department. Over 100 post offices were built to a standard design during the late 1890s; the Toodyay Post Office is one of the few remaining examples.
Postal services began in Toodyay in 1842.
As at 2019, the building is no longer used for postal services which are provided from a new location on Piesse Street.
