TOURIST TROPHY GRAND PRIX, ALBANY 1938
1938Blurred black and white photograph of race vehicle during Albany 'Round The Houses' race showing spectator crowd, race marshal and light industrial buildings in background.
An MG Midget is at the bottom of the long down hill Parade Street straight. Possibly the fastest leg of the 4km (2.5 mile) circuit(?).
Among the persistent issues that dogged the running of the "Round The Houses' race over the years in the 1930s was event safety.
Spectator proximity to the track being one of those, which is clearly shown here. Reporting on the race in the Albany Advertiser suggests average race speeds of over 50 mph and top speeds of 90 mph.
