RADIO: RADIOLA, AWA 50TH ANNIVERSARY MODEL IN GOLD CASE
1963This model was manufactured to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the A.W.A. (Amalgamated Wireless Australasian Ltd) hence the gold colour. Formerly belonged to Miss Helen Wright (deceased) of 36 Olive Street, Subiaco.
The radio is still in working order but the batteries have been removed to avoid leakage and corrosion. It was converted to modern batteries from obsolete 9 volts by Dick Smith Electronics Pty. Ltd.
Oblong radio in figured gold coloured plastic cover with handle, fastening behind with press studs. Cream coloured plastic strips across speaker, carrying small rectangular plaque with 'AWA' in gold letters encircled with gold on a black background. Transparent plastic tuning slide at left. 'Radiola' in black capital letters on a slightly concave golden strip at lower edge. On/off switch on right surface. Transistor complement diagram on white paper inside lid. Blue sticker (marked no.9 and serial number 075745) states that the instrument was manufactured under a licence granted by Australian Radio Technical Services and Patents Company Pty Ltd.
