PHOTOGRAPH: METTERS' 'PIONEER' STOVE (NO 2)
Black and white photograph of a Metters' 'Pioneer' stove (No 2), taken for advertising purposes. (Instructions in pencil regarding size and duplication on reverse confirm this.) The cast-iron stove was used for both heating and cooking (on the hotplate). It had curved cabriole-style legs and a chimney. The two doors allowed a small fire to be made by only filling the top section with wood, or a larger fire when wood was also put into the lower compartment. The ash tray is visible below the projecting front apron. The manufacturer's name appears on the upper door and the name of the stove on the lower door.
