COMMON SEAL STAMP - KELMSCOTT DISTRICT CEMETERY TRUST

1905 - 1911
Overview

Black enameled cast iron leaver stamp. Gold decoration on top of stamps main body. Rectangle base with rounded ends. Curving up from the base is the main body of the stamp. It forms a quarter circle shape. At the top is a round pivot that the rabbit ear shaped handle sits on. Under this is a round metal plate over a round metal base.
The handle is pulled down towards the stamp body, pushing the metal plate down onto the base.
On the plate is a round indented pattern of text in a circle around other text. Text [KELMSCOTT DISTRICT CEMETERY / TRUST] inside text [COMMON / SEAL]
The base has the same pattern though this one is raised.

Historical information

The Kelmscott Cemetery Board (Trust) managed the Kelmscott Public Cemetery from 1905 to 1911. In 1911 the Armadale Kelmscott Roads Board took over the management of the cemetery.
The cemetery was located on Third Avenue in Kelmscott, today John Dunn Memorial Park. The cemetery closed in 1955 with 11 individuals buried there. With its closure most of the bodies were relocated to other cemeteries. The land though is still gazetted as a cemetery and native bush has been allowed to grow on the land.
