Overview

Tear drop or vase shaped shaped brass badge Across the middle are two raised arrows that cross over each other. On top of this is a round shield with coloured text on it. Text is [RAOB], with the letters stylised so they fit over each other. The R is enamelled red, the A and O enamelled white and the B enamelled blue. Text engraved onto the back of the badge [Pres to / BRO A.DRAWBRIDGE / March 1950 to March 1951] makers mark stamped at the bottom.
Attached to the top of the badge by metal rings is a second oval shaped badge with wreath decoration at each end and in the middle is the crossed arrow design. The spaces around where the arrows cross are open. Moulded text on the front [DALE No 107 G.L.E]. Text has been engraved onto the back [Pres to Bro A.DRAWBRIDGE 1.4.51 - 31.3.52].
Attached to the top of this by a metal rings is a green ribbon that taper to a point a the bottom where a ring has been threaded through. At the top of the ribbon is a metal fixture designed to look like a curved beam with a reversed shaped curved banner dropping from it. Text engraved on the front [DALE No107 G.L.E]. On the back is a metal pin and makers mark stamped on it.
In the middle of the ribbon is a circular badge with stylised text on it. Text is [RAOB], with the letters stylised so they fit over each other. The R is enamelled red, the A and O enamelled white and the B enamelled blue.

Historical information

Albert Drawbridge was born on the 23 April 1893 in the town of Tonbridge in the County of Kent, United Kingdom. By c1916 Albert had moved to Australia and was working for the Western Australian Government Railway. In 1925 he married Laura Vincent in the Collie area where they had a daughter in 1927. Albert worked his way up from Porter to Assistant Station Master between 1916 and 1920. He spent the nest 25 years working at either an assistant station master or station master at a number of rural stations including Gnowangerup, Mt Barker and Brunswick.
In 1948 he was appointed to the position of Station Master at Armadale, a position he held until his retirement in 1958. During his time living in Armadale Albert, unsuccessfully ran for council and was a member of the Armadale lodge for the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes who met at their hall on Forrest Road. Albert died in 1966 age 73. Laura had passed away three years earlier.
This medal was presented to Albert Drawbridge for his memership of the Royal Antediluvan Order of Buffaloes in c1951.

Statement of significance

This object is a part of a collection that is associated with the important role community orgainsations have played within the City of Armadale community. These organisations are often run by dedicated local volunteers and were financially supported by members of the organisation, sponsorship from local businesses and community fundraising. Community organisations played an important role in bringing local people together, providing activities and skills for local children and teens and providing support for vulnerable members of the community.
