Situated 313 nautical miles from Port Hedland. The party met with the Road Board and Pearlers Association. Almost the entire multicultural population were connected to the pearling industry. An unflattering description of Chinatown as ‘miserable, dirty hovels’ [diary] contrasts sharply with Broome’s modern reputation as an internationally famous tourist destination
