Wood (She-oak, Hakea, Jarrah, Jacaranda) with oil and hard wax finish
‘WRAPPED’
by Dave Barrett, Wood Artist
The inspiration for this wood sculpture comes from nature; plants and leaves, the way they just wrap around each other without getting in way of the other. All the time complimenting the total look of the sculpture. While I try to use native timbers, this piece has a base of Jarrah burl with two of the leaf forms being native Sheoak and Hakea with the other from Jacaranda. Each piece has been positioned in such a way, that while they join at the base each does not interfere with the others to make the total piece.
Above is my explanation of what I was trying to portray while making this piece. I hope it helps you to see the sculpture as I did while I was making it.
To ensure that the natural beauty of the wood was not lost I applied an oil and hard wax finish buffing to a warm sheen. This natural beauty can be maintained by a light application of furniture oil every few months.
I hope that you as the recipient of this piece of hand crafted wood sculpture will gain as much pleasure as I have done in its making.
