PHOTOGRAPH: ELSA LIPFERT IN TRADITIONAL GERMAN DRESS
The black and white photograph features Elsa Lipfert standing in a garden against an ivy creeper with a basket of flowers at her feet. Elsa wears a white bonnet on her head and has two bowed ribbons placed at the ends of her plaited hair. She is wearing a Dirndl; a traditional German dress consisting of three pieces including the dress, a blouse with puffed sleeves and a laced edge apron. Elsa is holding out the skirt with both hands, has a bracelet on her upper right arm, and wears dark coloured shoes.
One of a series of photographs of Lipfert family members.
Although Elsa was born in Australia her father came from Germany and her mother had a German father - hence the German costume. From the Lipfert home at 270 York Street, Subiaco
