Overview

Bunbury Cathedral.

Historical information

Bunbury Cathedral was built on Bury Hill, later renamed Cathedral Hill. The foundation stone for the original parish church was laid in 1919. Local parishioners helped haul limestone from the beach and carry bricks for construction. The church opened in 1921.

Pope Pius XII proclaimed the church a cathedral in 1954 when the Catholic Diocese of Bunbury was established.

The tower and spire were added to the Cathedral in 1967.
