Women's (Associates) Championship Trophy

This trophy is titled:

Associates Championship Cup

The trophy is a silver plated cup with handles on either side and a removable lid. The cup is mounted on a circular plastic base.

The Women's (Associates) Championship Trophy was awarded every year since the club commenced play in 1969. This cup was the original perpetual trophy used to recognise each winner. After 51 years of use it was “showing its age” and with 51 names attached or inscribed on the trophy there was no space to add further names. As such, it was superseded with a replacement trophy (Item 2021.113) with all of the winners' names transposed onto the new trophy.

Women members of the club were originally classified as Associates and thus the trophy title. The winners' names between 1969 and 1979 were inscribed on shields attached to the base of the trophy. Subsequent names were engraved on the side of the silver cup. This engraving also devalued the appearance of the trophy as age and tarnishing increased over the years.
