Overview

Sepia studio portrait of the Newman family on grey cardboard mount with cream border. The boys wear sailor-style suits and the girls wear pale dresses with long sleeves, dark stockings and shoes with buckles and buttons. Eileen holds a doll on her lap and Dorothy has an open book on hers. 'Mother' wears a dark dress with high neck and long, puffed sleeves.
Reverse: Ages of the family members are recorded on the back. These are (from left to right) Dorothy 6; Jack 9; Mother 43; Gordon 12; Edna 4; Bartie 14; Eileen 8.

Historical information

Two copies of original photo, mounts somewhat battered and missing upper left-hand corner and lower right-hand corner, image faded but clear detail. Another recent sepia copy of the portrait. One of the two original photographs has '1898' written in ink on back, other copy has '1897' and age details of family
