Black hard cover with red lettering on front and gold lettering on spine. A guide to letters on every subject of interest to either sex, with full illustrations and examples. New and revised edition. 64 pages, contents page, + appendix at back of book and a list of Shilling Useful Books published by Ward, Lock & Co., Ltd., on extra pages 1-14. No publishing date on book but appears to be late 19th century. Between first pages of Chapter on Ladies Correspondence, is newspaper cutting used as book mark, of a recipe for Delicious Rainbow Cake, carmine is mentioned as a food colouring (obtained from cochineal).
