First World War Framed ‘Certificate of Discharge’ Issued to Pte. Charles William FIEDLER, 3326
c. 1918First World War Certificate of Discharge in a silver-painted wooden frame. The certificate is a red and black coloured print with some handwritten text in black ink. The certificate has been hand painted with blue, brown and yellow watercolour in places. It shows foxing and staining. The glass has a small hole and crack in the lower right-hand corner. The frame is very discoloured and is scratched and chipped. The original board backing remains intact, although the tape covering the nails is missing. Part of a framer’s sticker from ‘Alman Bros.’ remains. The wire attached to the back of the frame for hanging is rusted and knotted in places.
Part of a collection of military memorabilia donated to the museum commemorating the service of two sons and a nephew of the FIEDLER family. Private Charles William FIEDLER, 3326; Private Harold FIEDLER, 6337; Private John Frederick FIEDLER, 3485.
