About organisation
Stand on the platform of the former Walkaway Station, close your eyes and you can almost picture a train and hear the bustle of residents as they awaited passenger transport, the delivery of fresh produce, or prepared their livestock and grain for transport.
The former railway station and staff quarters was originally a post office, opened in 1888, and became a railway station in 1894.
Today the original two-storey stone building and adjoining rooms house a collection of historic artefacts showcasing early life in this farming district. Nearby a giant-purpose built shed protects an entire 0 Class locomotive and associated equipment.
