THE MGGC GREEN JACKET

Overview

This green jacket is perpetually donned by The Masters leg winner of the MGGC Grand Slam Cup. It notionally reflects the tradition carried out at The Masters PGA event at the Augusta National Golf Club in the United Stated of America whereby the winner is awarded “the green jacket”.

The Masters leg of the MGGC Grand Slam Cup is the first of four rounds that are aligned with the four Majors (The Masters, PGA Championship, US Open and The (British) Open).

The jacket was originally owned and worn by Neil Henley, a MGGC Foundation Member. Many years after Neil had passed away his wife Joan gave it to Dale Davies in 2025 during his role as MGGC Cub Captain. (Dale's parents were close friends with Neil and Joan Henley.) MGGC thanks Joan Henley and Dale Davies for providing the jacket.

Historical information

The owner of the green jacket, Neil Henley, would have worn it in the club's lounge after his game of golf. Wearing the jacket conformed with the club's dress standards for members at that time.

Based on the jacket's label, it was made by a tailor in Hong Kong, as depicted in one of the attachments. The colour of the jacket matches the blazers worn by the club's Directors at that time. Although Neil was not a Director himself he had the club's crest added to the left breast pocket to make it appear like the authentic club blazer. The buttons on the jacket (two functioning ones on the breast and two on each cuff of the sleeves) are unique.
