FERRY 'EMERALD', ARRIVING AT CLAREMONT JETTY
Copy print of fading postcard. Large double deck ferry, light in colour with dark decoration on bow and name [EMERALD] on side. An air vent on either side of funnel which is trailing smoke. Crowd on lower covered deck and upper open deck, with railings. 2 life belts on outside of upper railings. Ferry approaching wooden jetty. Heavy coiled rope on roof of smaller craft in foreground.
"Emerald" was a large pleasure craft used mainly on the Swan River and possibly took passengers to Garden Island. Prior to World War II it was used to carry blue metal to Rottnest for the construction of concrete gun emplacements etc.
