The Commendation for Brave Conduct is conferred for an act of bravery that is worthy of recognition. The decorations recognise acts of bravery by members of the community who selflessly put themselves in jeopardy to protect the lives or property of others. It is ranked fourth in the Australian bravery decoration in the Australian Honours System. The Commendation for Brave Conduct is a silver gilt sprig of mimosa mounted on a blood-red backing ribbon.

Historical information

Australian Bravery Decorations date from the establishment of the Australian honours system in February 1975. There are four levels of decoration: Cross of Valour (CV); Star of Courage (SC); Bravery Medal (BM); and Commendation for Brave Conduct. There is also the Group Bravery Citation an award for a group of people involved in a single incident.
