Kitchen Field Mobile (KFM)
The Kitchen Field Mobile (KFM) trailer cooker unit was issued to Australian Army units during the 1970s to 1990s. It was the standard light cooker unit employed in field operations. The Kitchen Field Mobile was an all metal mobile field kitchen based on a modified NATO British pattern single axle box trailer. The chassis and tow bar were manufactured in Germany. The cooking equipment was modified in Australia to suit local requirements
The chassis and tow bar are made from steel. The running gear has two pneumatic tyres, mechanical brakes and electrical running lights for road haulage. There are four extendable leg supports to steady the trailer when in use. The kitchen unit was painted in three tone camouflage featuring matt black, green and brown..
These mobile kitchen trailers were locally modified with the capacity to make 250 three course meals, or 1000 one course meals in a three-hour period. It consists of 2 pressure cookers, 2 pressure roasters and 2 water boilers with four burner units.
