Historical information

The Australian National Medal recognizes 15 years of long and diligent service in hazardous conditions for members of government and voluntary organisations that risk their lives to protect the community, such as police, fire, and ambulance services. Awarded by the Governor-General, it acknowledges members of these essential service organisations who have performed their "primary function" under dangerous circumstances, with clasps available for each additional 10 years of service.
