PHOTOGRAPH: SHENTON PARK LAKE 1955
1955Colour transparency (slide) of Shenton Park Lake, now named Lake Jualbup. The lake has reeds and other swamp vegetation growing around the edges. About ten medium sized pine trees are in the background near the lake. Houses line a street that runs behind the pines - probably Lake Street, Shenton Park. A young person wearing a red shirt is sitting on the grass in the left foreground.
The lake edges were defined by a retaining wall in the 1960s, with ramps to assist the local turtles to enter and leave the lake. Willows, poplars and other introduced trees were also planted in the mid 20th century. In the early 21st century, reeds, sedges and other swamp plants were reintroduced around the eastern edge of the lake, encouraging a more natural habitat for wild life.
