Historical information

The Municipalities Act 1871 and the Road Districts Act 1871 lead to the formation of local governments. Amongst their various powers was that of licensing dogs. This right both raised finance and helped reduced dog numbers. Metal license tags that could be attached to dog’s collars were not issued until 1907.
The Greenough Roads Board was established in 1871 and amalgamated with the Geraldton Roads Board in 1952.
