Historical information

On Sunday, November 7, the new Infant Health Centre at 138 Hamersley Road was officially opened by the Mayor (Mr. J. Abrahams). The centre cost nearly £4,000, and was regarded as one of the best appointed in the State. The City Council owned the building, and the Public Health Department and. Lotteries Commission had helped to finance the scheme.

Sister Green, in charge of the centre, had embodied some of her own ideas in the appointments, including a large showcase instructing mothers on food values and exhibiting examples of infants' garments. Among the features of the centre were a pram park, play pen, test feeding room, consulting room and pre-school section.
