Historical information

In 1890's Martin Jull purchased 280 acres of land in the heart of Armadale. In partnership with Mitchell Stewart, Jull planted 64 acres of grapes. In 1896 Stewart sold his share of the vineyard to Sir Arthur Stepney who named the now 280 acre vineyard Derry Na Sura. In 1899 Jull sold his share to Stepney who in 1909 sold the vineyard to Mr Sewell and Mr Crocker. Henry Ullman was employed as manager he along with later managers improved the quality of the wine and the port winning awards at the Perth Royal Show in the 1920's and 1930's. Over the next 60 years the winery was expanded and had a number of owners, including, between c1928 and 1951, the Derry-Na-Sura Vineyard Ltd. Depression and the Second World War hit the vineyard hard. In 1951 the land was sold to Mick Mouritz. Later the land was subdivided for housing.
