Pre 1914, Hats, Kahki Fur Felt - Slouch Hat, 1912
Slouch hat in the form as worn by 25 Light Horse from 1912 to 1920. It featured the numeral "25" in the front, a regimental badge on the turned up left side and a flat no fold felt puggaree. Crown creasing was variable but this example depicts the most common form of the period. Also depicted are badges and insignia of 11 Battalion Australian Infantry.
Prior to Federation there were a number of Mounted Infantry detachments in metro and rural cenres across the state. These were formalised as the West Australian Mounted Infantry (WAMI). On the 1st July 1903 when it passed to full federal control the WAMI was renamed to the 18th Light Horse Regiment, on the 1st July 1912 it was again renamed to the 25th Light Horse Regiment until in 1918 it was merged for the final time into the 10th Light Horse Regiment which had fought in the Great War and is the spiritual successor.
