Framed painting of poppies

c. 1924
Overview

Timber framed oil painting on canvas of oriental poppies.

Historical information

Painted by Catherine May Giles (nee Prendergast) (c1895-1985). Kath was born at Greenough, and was an amateur artist. According to the donor, Norman Lindsay asked her to go over east to develop her skills. She refused because she was a devout Catholic and her high morals did not allow her to paint nudes. She married Roy Giles in 1926 and lived at Moonyoonooka.
Given by Kath to Monica Clune in the 1980s and hung at Mt Masima, Bringo, until 2021.
