Pre 1914, Western Australia, Volunteer Force Ordnance 1861
The Volunteer Force Ordinance passed the Legislative Council on 18 November 1861 to authorise a Western Australia Volunteer Force following the announcement that British troops would be withdrawn by 1863.
In preparation for Britain's withdrawal of military forces in Western Australia, the Volunteer Force Ordnance 1861 was passed by the Legislative Council on the 18 November 1861. By 1862, The Metropolitan Rifle Volunteers (13 September 1861), The Fremantle Volunteer Rifles (6 August 1862) and the Pinjarra Mounted Infantry (23 October 1862) were parading. The Mounted Union Troop (19 July 1870) was later formed to escort the Governor at public displays.
