Overview

Artillery round comprising casing with replica projectile (solid metal pointy end) pressed into the open end.
37mm calibre, anti-personnel round.
Original brass cylindrical casing with one solid end section, slightly larger diameter than the rest of the casing, where the firing pin was originally fitted, The casing would have held an explosive charge but is now empty. The end of the casing where the projectile is inserted has indentations showing where the metal has been pressed in to hold the projectile in place.
German manufacture.

Historical information

Brought home from WW1 by William Markey. Pt. W.J Markey, 8818, 4th Field Ambulance A.I.F.
Private Markey served in the Great Battles of the Somme (Paschendale) (Villiers Brettaneau) (Vemy Ridge etc).
August 2018: Solid metal end inserted in place of original projectile by licensed gunsmith Peter Ottema.
