Historical information

Leonard Roy Mathews enlisted on 15 August 1915 and embarked on HMAT A38 Ulysses on 2 November 1915. Originally posted missing, it was later confirmed that he was Killed In Action on 3 September 1916 in the later stages of the Somme battles while serving with 51 Battalion. He has no know grave and his sacrifice is commemorated at Villers Bretonneux
