Contextual Information

Organised rifle shooting before 1901 focussed on volunteers and Swan River colony militia. Captain A.J Hillman was born 22 October 1841 in Perth, Western Australia. He was a member of the Metropolitan Rifles, being a sub Lieutenant in 1873 and Captain in 1876, and promoted to Major, Officer Commanding, Metropolitan Rifle Volunteers in 1883.
