This manuscript transcribed from the original Log book of John Gormanby by F.H. Broomhall March 1973. Manuscript is held in the Battye Library and gives daily entries during the voyage of the ship "Minden" to Australia from July 2nd 1851. John Gorman travelled to Western Australia as a Pensioner Guard, supervising convicts. He travelled with his wife Kate, who had twins during the voyage. The "Minden" arrived in Fremantle in mid October and disembarkment of the prisoners began on 16th October. Description of Fremantle and Perth in 1851 included
