1950's Friction Powered Lithographed Tin Circus Train with Carriages
c. 1950This delightful tin circus train captures the whimsy and excitement of the big top, a hallmark of 1950s toy design. The set includes a blue, red, and yellow lithographed “Circus Train” engine with white dotted rivet detailing and three connected carriages. The first carriage features a giraffe, the second a miniature carousel with horses and elephants beneath a red-and-yellow canopy, and the third a flatbed with lever arm, where a seal use to sit. Each carriage is lithographed in vivid colours and linked by small metal hooks.The engine measures approximately 160 × 50 × 70 mm, and each of the three carriages measures 90 × 60 × 45 mm. This style of tin toy was commonly produced in Japan and Hong Kong during the 1950s, designed for export to Western markets.
