Mining Lease, Midland Hospital Site
1950Four-page mining lease, foolscap size.
Lease was retained by John Crowley and passed to his daughter who donated the lease to the society. A newspaper article from the Daily News accompanies the lease and explains that the purpose of taking out the lease was to prevent Midland Brick company from mining clay across the road from the proposed Midland Districts Hospital; the Public Health department would not have proceeded with the hospital if a clay pit was dug opposite.
