This work was likely produced by Brian McKay in Greece on the island of Kythea where he resided for one year, 1964-1965.

This work was part of the artist Miriam Stannage's estate from the 1980s. Lee Kinsella indicated that a biro inscription verso is in the hand of Miriam Stannage who purchased the work from a second-hand shop. It was hung behind her front door before 1993. City of Fremantle purchased the work from GFL auction/Miriam Stannage Estate in May 2017.
