Tatting is a technique for handcrafting lace by creating a series of knots and loops using a shuttle or needle. It produces a durable lace that holds its shape well and can be used for various decorative items such as doilies, collars, and accessories like earrings and necklaces. The knots used in tatting are called double stitches, and the loops are referred to as picots. This method is considered a precursor to many other lace-making techniques and combines elements from various crafts.
