Overview

This sepia copied photo is of four people - L. to R. David Bruce, Alva Bruce, family friend, Fred Sullivan and Walter Lay. They are standing in front of a motor car with natural bushland in background. There is also a small white dog standing in front of Alva Bruce. David Bruce has a jacket with long trousers and is wearing a hat. Alva Bruce has a blouse with a cardigan over it, long trousers tucked into boots and a cloche hat. Fred Sullivan is wearing overalls with a shirt underneath and a cloth peaked cap. Walter Lay has a suit with a waistcoat, shirt and tie and a hat. The motor car is a basic style early one with no windows a high steering wheel and big wheels. There is a large parcel bound with rope attached to the running board, behind the people.

Historical information

William Lay built the house that became Totterdell Hall a long time after he had left this house. The name came from another builder in Subiaco, Joe Totterdell who was on the Subiaco Council. Mrs.Totterdell donated an amount to the Heritage of Subiaco and the house was named in honour of her husband.
