OVERALLS, undress, Lt. W Jose, Geraldton Rifle Volunteers 1885

Overview

Dark blue/black woollen trousers with 8mm wide barathea stripe on outside seam of leg. Measure 1050mm long in front, 1220mm at back. At bottom of overalls, four small buttons for overall braces. Metal buttons painted black, on them ''HOBSON & SONS London'' 13mm across. On side back waist two black painted buttons same manufacturer's sign, 16mm wide. On front waist four buttons same. On waist, one large button. On fly, five small buttons. Muslin lining on waist and cotton linen pockets. Name tag on back ''Lt Jose''. On inside right pocket embroidered handcherchief.

PERSONAL The new Mayor of Geraldton, Mr. William John Jose, was born in Fremantle in 1852. He first went to Geraldton in 1867, under engagement to Messrs. Scott and Gale, merchants, whom he afterwards left to enter the service of C. Crowther and Co., in 1874. He left that firm to start the well known Trefusis Aerated Water Factory in 1881, which he carried on up to the time of his departure for South Australia in 1895. Returning to Geraldton at the close of 1899, he again took over this factory, and carried on until July of this year, when he retired from business. Mr. Jose has had an extensive municipal experience. Previous to 1895 he served six years as councillor and was Mayor for six years. Mr. Jose is also president of the Northern Development League.
